Profit oriented than aimming for access

We as a society, probably due to capitalism, have focused all our energy on trying to get more profit. Even for so called not-for-profit organisations aim to make at least some kind of profit to sustain their expenses and pay the people working there. But what direction does this take us towards? When everything is transactional of the moment and we dont provide such access to people later on.

The most evident aspect of society being gatekept is of course technology, which is only available through expensive subscriptions or corporate walls. So why should the tax money pay for such innovation if it will eventually be gatekept from the general public and is only going to benefit those who can afford to pay for it. Why should the taxes of those already struggling be used to pay for the ones with already too much?
